Sonic Journey Sound Meditations
Mark Clem has spent a lifetime following sound.
More than 25 years ago, Mark started out with just a guitar and a tape machine. That simple beginning grew into a career in music production, recording, and performing with artists like Macklemore, Fleet Foxes, Phil Ek, Alan White, Blake Lewis, BT, Rick Parashar, Aaron Sprinkle, and others. Earlier, Mark earned a Bachelor of Arts, focusing on large-format photography and fiber arts. His free-form embroidery explored texture, pattern, and the expressive power of subtle details. These early influences still shape how he relates to sound today.
While living in Seattle, Mark composed music for modern dance. This creative path led him to meet his wife, Amy, and helped him see music as something you can feel and experience in your body.
In 2014, Mark and Amy left Seattle and moved to the remote Coast Range of Oregon. There, they started a quieter life, more connected to nature and shaped by listening. On their 15-acre permaculture farm, surrounded by gardens, edible plants, shrubs, vines, and trees, Mark’s connection to sound grew beyond music. He began to notice the rhythms and intelligence of the natural world.
In 2017, everything changed. Mark first encountered the gong, and its raw, immersive, and unpredictable sound showed him a new way to experience vibration, intention, and improvisation. Singing bowls came later and added more variety, but the gong was the real turning point.
Sonic Journey was born from that moment.
Along the way, Mark has learned from respected gong teachers and sound healers such as Don Conreaux, Richard Rudis, Methab Benton, Mike Tamburo, and Mitch Nur. Each teacher has helped him see sound as both an art and a practice, deepening his understanding of vibration, intention, and the subtle ways sound can support healing and transformation.
Today, Mark creates immersive sound meditation experiences with gongs, crystal singing bowls, and a growing collection of resonant instruments. His sessions focus less on performance and more on presence. In these spaces, sound guides people into stillness, release, and reconnection. Each journey is shaped by his years in the studio and by the subtle patterns of the natural world around him. Every session unfolds naturally, with layers, textures, and a sense of life.
Mark offers monthly events in Corvallis, Albany, Salem, and Newport. He also brings Sonic Journey to corporate wellness programs. When he isn’t leading sessions, Mark writes and produces music as The Felt Crush from his studio in the forest.
No two journeys are the same, but each one invites you to listen more deeply—to sound, to your body, and to the living world within and around us.
***We can provide either a zero gravity chair or a two-inch matt with a leg bolster. Please bring nesting items such as a pillow, water bottle, eye mask, blankets, or anything else you need to feel comfortable.
